What is Japanese B Encephalitis?
Japanese Encephalitis virus is transmitted to humans through the bite of an infected mosquito, primarily Culex species. The virus is maintained in a cycle between mosquitoes and amplifying vertebrate hosts, primarily pigs and wading birds. Humans are incidental or dead-end hosts.
Who should have Japanese Encephalitis vaccination?
Individuals more than 17 years old
Individuals who are travelling to the endemic areas for more than 2-4 weeks

2 doses administered 28 days apart
